WHAT IS ANIMATE?

ANIMATE is Japan’s largest and most famous store for selling Manga, Game and anime-related products. The main store, which is located in Ikebukuro, Tokyo, is 9 stories high, with each floor filled with comic books, CDs, DVDs, and other anime-related products. The store is known not only for having a large variety of products, but also for having exhibitions of animes or talk shows and autograph events of popular voice actors. It is the very place recommended for all anime-lovers to visit. If you are a fan of anime, ANIMATE is literally heaven. It is the top of the list destination to visit when going to Japan.

A 9 story building filled entirely with anime related products may sound like heaven, but may be quite complicated to look for what you want exactly. For those who want to go to ANIMATE but are not quite sure what they have and where you can get them, here is a list of things you can get and where you can get them at ANIMATE Ikebukuro.

COMIC BOOKS: 2ND-4TH FLOOR

At ANIMATE Ikebukuro (main store) there are three stories just for comic books. Each floor carries differnet types of comic books. For example, the 2nd and 3rd floor mainly carries comics targeted mainly to male readers, whereas the 4th floor carries comics targeted mainly to female readers.

The comic books that are now in trend or will soon be made into anime are all on the 2nd floor, so if you want to take a look at the comics that are popular in Japan now, the 2nd floor will be where you will find what you’re looking for.

ANIMATE Ikebukuro also carries drawing materiels which will come in handy if you write comics yourself. If you want to give it a try on drawing materiels which professionals also use, the 4th floor will be the place you could get them.

For those who are interested in buying trading cards, key chains, towels, stationary goods, etc., the 5th and 6th floor is the place you want to go.

ANIMATE often has campaigns in which you can get anime products depending on how much you spend at the store. If you have any anime that you like in particular, checking if they’re having any campaigns may be a good idea.

CDS, DVDS, GAMES: 7TH FLOOR

ANIMATE also carries a large variety of CDs, DVDs, and games. They have CDs of the songs that are used in anime programs, CDs of songs that are sung by voice actors and other CDs that have anything related with anime. Their variation of DVDs is also very large, starting with DVDs of animes that have already been broadcasted to DVDs of events performed by famous voice actors.

Being Japan’s No.1 anime-related product store, it may be too obvious that they have a large stock of games, but yes, ANIMATE Ikebukuro is known to have all sorts of games. They have adventure games for Play Station Portables, Play Station VITAs, etc.

If you have any CD or DVD that has anything to do with anime, or a particular game that you want, ANIMATE will be the place you’ll find it.
